US-designed missiles were used in suspected Israeli attacks on Syrian regime outposts that killed dozens of Iranian fighters, pro-opposition Zaman al-Wasl has reported.

The precision-guided bombs that hit two military targets in Aleppo and Hama provinces late on Sunday were the same missiles used in a similar attack last month, a military source told the news website on Tuesday.

The attacks killed 50 pro-regime fighters, including 22 Iranians, according to Zaman al-Wasl.

The unnamed source said that the missiles used were "GBU-39 small diameter bombs" and gave the outlet images of the remains of the missiles at the base in Hama known as the 47th Brigade.

The New Arab cannot independently verify the authenticity of the images.

The news website said the same missiles were used in an attack last month on the T4 airbase in Homs province that killed at least 14 fighters, including seven Iranians.

The recent raids have born the hallmarks of Tehran's archfoe Israel and come amid soaring tensions between the regional rivals.

The Syrian regime denounced Sunday's attack as a "fresh aggression".

Following the attacks, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the time when Tehran's enemies can "hit and run" is over.

"They know if they enter a military conflict with Iran, they will be hit multiple times," he said in comments at a meeting with workers, according to his website.

There was no immediate comment from Israel, which rarely confirms or denies its attacks.

Syria, Iran and Russia blamed Israel for last month's attack. Tel Aviv did not confirm or deny it.

Israel Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said in an interview published on Thursday that his country will strike Iran if attacked first.
